In these days of essential cost cutting in order to achieve margins, any opportunity for the cinema operator to save money is most welcome, and being forced to dispose of an otherwise serviceable sheet simply because it was dirty had long been a source of frustration to us. Like everyone else though, we had seen attempts to clean a sheet, and can cite many instances where this has been undertaken, resulting in the sheet needing to be replaced.
It took a considerable amount of time and investment to develop a successful process for cleaning screen sheets, and after extensive trials European Screen Cleaning Company Limited was launched in August 2001.
At that time demonstrations were carried out to the major operators and work has been very successfully completed for AMC, Apollo, Cineworld, Empire, City Screens, Odeon, Showcase. as well as many independents.
However, it is a trusting operator who allows anyone to attempt what he traditionally knows as being the impossible in trying to clean the screen sheet (which at worst could result in the loss of his source of income for several weeks whilst a new sheet is sourced) based just on what he is told in some marketing blurb. For this reason invitations were sent out to over 1,000 cinemas and demonstrations arranged at venues across the country in late November and work has been flooding in ever since |
